A better week

Cardrona reported 10 salmon in the last week. This coincided with a large run of fish which took the high water on the Monday, and a good number of clean fish were amongst these. We are pleased that some visiting rods got some action.Mr Scott reported 2 fish on Monday and Mr Robb took 1 fish each on the Friday and Saturday. A couple of days were unlet, so catches could have been better. The remaining 6 fish were taken by the co-owners.

There are plenty of fish in the river now, so prospects are very good if conditions stabilise.

At last some water and fish

Conditions have improved markedly; some showers at the end of last week brought the river up to a foot by the weekend, we had 4 fish on the Friday, including 2 to visitor Mr Jones (15lb and 8 lb). Another on Saturday was reported and then 3 fish yesterday (Monday), with another visitor, Mr Scott, accounting for two of these (12lb and 10lb). Most of the fish have been coloured, however, the bigger water yesterday, at about 1’5”, saw lots of fish running, and quite a few of these were very fresh, briefly heading and tailing as they ran upstream.

At last we have had a proper big water this morning (Tuesday), with it showing over 3 feet on the Peebles gauge – this will give the fishing a great boost, and we anticipate some decent sport in the coming weeks, if it remains settled with the odd shower to keep things moving.

Another slight rise in the water levels

Here is hoping the rain this morning added to this chart from upriver. Ever the optimists we are hopeful of a fish or two Saturday or Monday.

September 20th - Another Fresh Fish from the Nutwood

One of the owners was down for a cast on September 20th, to find a small run of grilse had run up into the beat. This was a suberb example of the fresh fish which can be encountered at Cardrona given the right water conditions. Taken in the Nutwood Pool on a size ten silver bodied Tosh.

First salmon!

Congratulations to Chris Plank who caught his first ever salmon on Tuesday. The fish, about 7lbs, was taken on an Ally's Shrimp at the tail of Rumbler. Well done Chris!

Report to 17 November

The fishing has been disappointing to say the least. Since the last report to end October, we have had 6 salmon and 2 sea trout. G Badland's party of 3 rods over 3 days had 2 salmon and a sea trout during the first 3 days of November, (best 12lb), Messrs Bain, Morrison and McDowell had 2, 1 and 1 fish respectively between 2-8 November. Mr Ritchie had a sea trout on 10 November and that has been it.

The water has been very unsettled, and it seems that fresh fish are there, but arriving in unpredictable pulses on the varying water levels.
