Just when we were expecting the season to close on a quiet front, one of the co-owners landed this 18lb fish and lost another similar size silver fish on one of our best holding pools. Experience and resilience count when it comes to the end of the Tweed season.

Take care - spawning fish
Anglers are asked to take particular care when wading in this last week of the season. Redds are being cut, and fish are now spawning in the gravels. Please avoid wading in the tails of pools where fish are observed spawning, and avoid fishing in areas where fish are cutting redds and spawning. Sensitive areas include the tail of the Rumbler above the island, tail of Dirtpot and tail of Nutwood and Lower Nutwood.

Update - November 12th and 13th 2014
Iain Bain the most experienced owner at Cardrona was down for a cast Wednesday and Thursday, with an 8lb salmon returned to the Nutwood Pool on Wednesday and and a 9lb salmon (see image below) returned to The Rumbler on Thursday, a reasonably fresh fish. Mr Sutherland also had a seatrout around 3lb from the Nutwood Pool on Thursday.
Experienced rods are "picking away" but as yet we have not experienced prolific runs of fresh fish coming through the system, despite recurring high water conditions over the past two weeks.

Mid-week report to 23 October
The river has fined down after last weekend's rain. The height today (23 Oct) was 1'4", good height, but we do not want it to drop much lower than that. Steven Dora had a 5lb salmon from the Rumbler on Monday, and on Wednesday Jim Docherty had a nice 5lb sea trout from The Nutwood and Iain Bain had a 5lb salmon from the Rumbler.
Sean McGarry had a good day today, taking 2 salmon from the Lower Nutwood (best 14lb) and a 3lb sea trout from the Castlehaugh Cheek. Sean also connected with a few other fish.

Week beginning 13 October
Low water (7") persisted for the week, although there were fish in all the pools.
6 fish reported for the week, with Mr Hartle taking 2 fish - 14 & 15lbs - from the Castlehaugh Cheek and Nutwood respectively. Messrs Galka and Mankowski had 3 fish between them, largest 11bs and taken from the Castlehaugh Cheek and the Rumbler. The remaining fish was taken by one of the co-owners. The last day of the week was marred by another flood rendering the river mostly unfishable on Saturday.
This coming week, the 20 October, is looking very promising, with a falling water which is likely to hold a good level for the week and bring in (hopefully) lots of new fish.

Report for week beginning 6 October
After many months at low summer level, the river was in good condition after the heavy rain at the weekend. The river rose several feet and this brought up a good run of fish. Many of these are older river fish and coloured, however from now until the end of the season we should see some cleaner fish arriving should we get more water.
9 salmon and 2 sea trout reported so far this week.
Guest rod, Mr Wooding had two fish at 4.5lb and 8.5lb on Wednesday, both from the Castlehaugh Cheek.
Rob Mitchell, a guest, had a 6lb fish from the Dirtpot on Friday, pic below.
The remaining salmon and sea trout were caught by the fishery owners, some good fish caught and returned, including an 8lb sea trout and 18lb salmon.
